What terraplasma medical was solving for
Taking a specialist plasma device from prototype to serial production

  • Clinical wound-care applications call for additional treatment options when conventional approaches reach their limits.

  • The device uses sophisticated cold atmospheric plasma technology, requiring precise and consistent manufacturing.

  • The next product generation needed to be more energy-efficient and user-friendly than its predecessor.

  • With prototype testing under way, terraplasma medical needed a dependable series-production partner with medical-device experience.

What Incap solved
One EMS partner, certified where it counts

  • Incap contributed manufacturing expertise early in development to simplify production and identify cost-saving changes.

  • The Karlsfeld team manufactures key components, including the technically demanding plasma source and high-voltage unit.

  • Electronics, housings and other components are sourced and coordinated through an integrated supply chain.

  • Finished products are inspected, labelled, packaged and dispatched to terraplasma medical’s distributors.

Understanding cold plasma in medical solutions.

Cold plasma offers a breakthrough solution for medicine by accelerating healing processes and effectively fighting infections. Cold plasma generates reactive oxygen and nitrogen species such as ozone (O₃), hydroxyl radicals (OH) and nitric oxide (NO). These promote blood circulation, activate growth factors and simultaneously destroy bacteria, viruses and fungi. The tissue remains intact and no resistant germs develop.

The plasma care® from terraplasma medical GmbH is a handy and mobile medical device for treating wounds with cold atmospheric plasma. It is about the size and weight of a telephone receiver and has a battery capacity that is sufficient for around 120 treatments. It can therefore be used by outpatient wound specialists as well as in clinical and private practice settings.

To ensure sterile treatment and avoid cross-contamination, the plasma care® is used in combination with a sterile packaged spacer. The following rule applies: one spacer per patient and wound. The treatment area per wound surface is 13 cm². For larger wounds, the spacer can be used up to 6 times within one treatment session (total area approx. 73 cm²). After this, the spacer is invalid and must be disposed of.

Incap Electronics Germany owns every stage between Qwello’s design intent and a charging station ready to go in the ground — the same production model as the site’s Module D certification, applied end to end.

Manufacturing feedback that improves the product.

Development of the new plasma care® generation began in 2021. Incap was involved from an early stage, allowing production engineers to assess manufacturability while the device was still taking shape.

That collaboration enabled engineering adjustments that simplified the manufacturing process and lowered production costs, while terraplasma medical remained responsible for the device concept and its medical requirements.

From a new product generation to market-ready devices.

Combining terraplasma medical’s specialised plasma technology with Incap’s manufacturing capabilities has helped establish a scalable process for producing and delivering the next-generation plasma care® device.

Following a successful certification process, the first units of the new generation reached the market. The original project report recorded an early milestone of approximately 1,000 delivered devices.

EN ISO 13485 – Quality and Patient Safety at Every Stage

In medical technology, quality and patient safety are essential. At Incap Electronics Germany, our EN ISO 13485-certified quality management system ensures that medical devices are manufactured under clearly defined, controlled and documented processes. This internationally recognised standard establishes strict requirements for quality management in medical device manufacturing, helping to minimise risks, maintain consistent production standards and support the reliability of products such as terraplasma medical’s plasma care® devices.

What this means for patients:

  • Consistent quality: Standardised and monitored manufacturing processes help ensure every device meets defined quality requirements.

  • Full traceability: Documented production processes and component records enable effective tracking throughout manufacturing.

  • Risk management: Systematic procedures help identify, assess and minimise potential risks that could affect product quality and patient safety.

  • Rigorous quality controls: Inspections, testing and documented quality checks help identify deviations before devices reach their intended users.
