Full-stack electronics development — designed to be built, not just to function.
Most electronic products today are defined as much by their software as by their hardware. The intelligence embedded in firmware, the connectivity delivered through cloud architecture, and the user experience shaped by application software are as critical to commercial success as the circuit design itself. Yet hardware and software are too often developed in silos — and then reconciled, expensively, when it is time to manufacture.
Incap’s Hardware & Software Development capability is built around a different premise: that hardware and software should be developed together, in constant dialogue with the manufacturing process they will eventually feed. Engineers who understand production constraints design better circuits. Developers who understand hardware limitations write more reliable firmware. And products that are conceived with manufacturing in mind reach volume production faster, with fewer surprises.
With a team of over 50 hardware engineers, software developers, and electronics specialists, Incap offers end-to-end development across the full product stack — from schematic and PCB layout through to firmware, embedded operating systems, cloud integration, and application software — all under one roof, and all permanently connected to Incap’s global manufacturing operations.
Why combined hardware and software development matters
Separating hardware and software development — or separating development from manufacturing entirely — introduces interface risks that have a habit of surfacing at the worst possible moment. A firmware team that inherits a hardware design they had no input on may find undocumented constraints that force architectural rework. A manufacturing team handed a design by an external developer will often identify DFM issues that require design spins to resolve.
Incap’s integrated approach eliminates these interfaces. Hardware and software teams work in parallel from the requirements phase, sharing assumptions and resolving conflicts in real time rather than at handoff. And because both teams sit within the same organisation as the manufacturing operation, production-readiness is not a retrospective review — it is a continuous design input.
The practical result: fewer design iterations, faster path through NPI, and a product that is genuinely ready for series production when it reaches the factory floor.

Hardware Development
From requirements to production-ready design
Incap’s hardware development process begins with a thorough analysis of customer requirements — covering product lifecycle expectations, functional scope, operating environment, regulatory targets, cost parameters, and the manufacturing context the product will eventually enter.
From that foundation, Incap’s hardware engineers develop designs that are optimised not only for functionality and performance, but for manufacturability, testability, and long-term supply chain resilience. State-of-the-art simulation and analysis tools are used throughout — including thermal modelling, signal integrity analysis, and power supply design — to validate design decisions before physical prototypes are committed.
Microcontroller and Processor-based Designs
Incap’s hardware engineers have deep experience across the major processor architectures used in industrial electronics. Supported platforms include 8, 16, and 32-bit microcontrollers from STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments, Renesas, and Microchip, as well as more complex processor-based designs requiring Linux or RTOS environments.
FPGA Development
For applications requiring high-speed parallel processing, real-time determinism, or custom logic acceleration, Incap develops on Intel FPGA platforms — covering logic design, HDL programming, and board-level integration.
PCB Design and Layout
PCB layout is developed using industry-standard tools including Altium, with active DFM and DFQ review integrated into the layout process. Incap’s engineers optimise for component placement, signal integrity, EMC compliance, thermal performance, and panelisation — all with production economics and assembly yield in mind..
Power Electronics and Supply Design
Power supply design, power electronics, and energy management are covered in-house — from low-power battery-operated devices through to industrial power electronics with demanding thermal and regulatory requirements.
Embedded Board Platforms
Incap develops on and around established embedded board standards including COM Express and Qseven (Q7) — enabling faster development cycles and greater flexibility for customers who require long-term availability without locking into a single-source architecture.
Mechanical and Enclosure Design
Hardware development at Incap extends to the mechanical domain — covering enclosure design for all protection classes (IP rating), thermal design and heat sink engineering, and front panel and operating unit design. Mechanical designs are developed with DFM/DFQ review built in, and in close coordination with enclosure suppliers.
Software Development
From firmware to cloud — the full software stack
Incap’s software development capability spans the complete range of software layers found in modern industrial electronic products. Development teams specialise by domain — firmware, embedded operating systems, cloud and connectivity, and application software — but collaborate as a unified function, sharing a common development methodology and a shared view of the hardware platform they are building on.
Incap’s software development follows an agile methodology, dividing work into manageable iterative cycles with continuous testing, regular customer review, and clear milestone accountability. This ensures that development remains responsive to changing requirements, that quality is validated continuously rather than at the end, and that customers have visibility into progress throughout.
Firmware and bare metal coding
Firmware development covers the full range of microcontroller and processor targets — including bare metal C/C++ for resource-constrained devices, BSP (board support package) development, RTOS implementation (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, and others), and driver development for peripherals, communication interfaces, and sensors. Firmware is developed in close coordination with hardware design, with early bring-up and validation performed on development hardware before the final PCB revision is committed.
Embedded operating systems
Incap has particular depth in embedded Linux — including Yocto Project-based custom distributions, Qt application development, and the integration of standard Linux distributions (Debian, Arch) for less constrained embedded platforms. OS configuration, security hardening, licence analysis, and long-term maintenance are included in the scope of embedded OS work.
Cloud connectivity and IoT integration
Cloud connection and IoT integration covers the full stack from device to cloud: communication protocol selection and implementation (MQTT, OPC-UA, REST, and others), cloud platform integration (Azure, AWS IoT, WISE-PaaS/EnSaaS, and customer-specific platforms), data logging, and the edge-to-cloud architecture decisions that determine where processing happens and how data flows through the system. This work connects directly to Incap’s broader Embedded Systems & Industrial IoT capability.
Application software and visualisation
Application-level software — including data visualisation dashboards, digital twin implementations, HMI applications, and web or mobile interfaces — is developed as part of the overall product software scope. Incap’s software engineers work in all major programming languages relevant to the application domain, covering both front-end and back-end development where required.
Development aligned with manufacturing
What distinguishes Incap’s hardware and software development from that of a standalone design house is the permanent connection to manufacturing. Every design decision is made with production in mind — not because it is reviewed at a DFM gate, but because the engineers making those decisions have direct access to the production knowledge, process data, and manufacturing feedback that allow them to make better choices in the first place.
