Meet the team: our apprentice James Gibbs at Incap UK
Let’s meet James, who is having a 4-year apprenticeship at our Incap UK factory in Newcastle-Under-Lyme! James is training to become a test engineer by getting training in the workplace and at college. He has been part of the Incap UK team for 3 years.
He found Incap when searching for engineering apprenticeships on a UK government website. “I decided to do my apprenticeship at Incap as I would be able to obtain experience in the workplace whilst also being paid to work. Incap UK manufactures many different electrical products, and this was something that I was interested in to gather a further understanding of the manufacturing of the electrical products,” said James.
James’s main task at Incap at the moment is testing products and finding faults within the products so that they can be corrected, and the manufacturing processes can continue. In his 3 years at Incap James has moved to different areas to gain an understanding of all the different processes and have developed skills and techniques to be used to complete the processes.
“What I enjoy most is the testing and fault finding and diagnosing of products so that they can be corrected. I also like the support of other employees who will help you, if you are unsure of your task,” added James.
So far, he has learned how to set up and operate the surface mount machinery to place components onto a circuit board. He has also learned how to assemble units correctly following documentation and can complete testing of a product to ensure that it functions correctly.
“I would recommend an apprenticeship to others at Incap UK as you get a wide range of work experience. To achieve the most out of your apprenticeship at Incap UK you need to be self-motivated and assertive in what you want to get out of your apprenticeship,” said James.
We wish a successful apprenticeship to the amazing young people at our UK factory!
