Incap UK team member Rob Plant fundraising for Dougie Mac

Let’s shine a spotlight on one of our remarkable Incap UK colleagues, Rob Plant, who has been making a significant impact through his fundraising efforts for the Douglas MacMillan Hospice, affectionately known as Dougie Mac.

In September, Rob embarked on a challenging 50-mile cycling fundraising event, a journey that took him from Newcastle-under-Lyme to Market Drayton, Nantwich, and back to Newcastle. This ride was not just a physical challenge, but a heartfelt mission to raise funds for a noble cause. We are delighted to share that Rob’s determination and compassion have led to the collection of an impressive £983.00.

Dougie Mac is a charitable organisation that provides free hospice services to individuals of all ages living with life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire, and surrounding villages. In addition to their invaluable support for patients, they also extend care to their families and caregivers.

Rob’s connection with Dougie Mac is deeply personal. A dear friend who was diagnosed with cancer received care at Dougie Mac, sparking Rob’s involvement in their yearly fundraisers since 2005. Tragically, Rob has lost his sister and several close friends over the years. To honour their memory and to support Dougie Mac’s crucial work, he continues to participate in these cycling events.

Incredible as it may sound, Rob has raised a remarkable total of £22,000 for Dougie Mac. His dedication has taken him on memorable journeys, including eight cycling trips to Belgium, travelling across the landscapes of England, and completing the challenging North Coast 500 route in Scotland. Notably, during one of his Belgian adventures, Rob faced adversity when he broke his hip during a 500-mile bike ride. He spent two weeks in a Belgian hospital, only to return to the UK and his bike as soon as he recovered.

Rob is already planning another bike ride in 2024 to continue raising funds for Dougie Mac.
